Product Specifications

The material on this page assumes an understanding of the Elecraft® K2.
If you are unfamiliar with the K2, you may find it helpful to first review
our K2 Internal Option Basics and Understanding Un-Modules pages.

Our Rework Eliminator™ brand aftermarket K2 accessories are organized into four distinct product lines:

We also offer Combo Packages for builders who are starting out with just a base/stock K2.

K2 Internal Mic Adaptor (IMA)

The Internal Mic Adaptor is an assembly composed of two tiny multi-layer circuit boards that fits behind the K2’s front panel.  It is easily accessible after removing just the left side panel of the K2 enclosure, enabling you to quickly reconfigure your K2 for most* 8-pin Foster mic plug standard pin-outs.

  • Adaptor Kit – Two PCBs, all requried parts, seven jumpers, self-adhesive decal, and instruction sheet.
  • 2 Extra Jumpers – Two 0.100" pitch jumpers.

* The IMA should support all Elecraft, Icom, Kenwood, and Yaesu mics and at least some Alinco, Heil, and Ten-Tec mics that were manufactured with an 8-pin Foster mic plug.  However, most newer Alinco mics will still require an external adaptor.  In total, more than 55 microphones are supported.

Option Ready – Duplicate K2 PCB Parts Kits

These kits provide duplicates of 46 option supplied K2 Front Panel, Control, and RF circuit board mounted parts that are not included with the stock K2.  Incorporating these parts while building your K2 will greatly simplify the task of upgrading it later.

None of these parts kits are required when purchasing a fully loaded QRP or QRO K2 since they are included with the options.  The components supplied with our parts kits have the same (or in some cases better) specs as those provided with the actual options.

All Option Supplied Parts

Description

All of the option supplied K2 PCB parts – including electrical components, connectors, hardware, and wire – required to fully populate the three main circuit boards of a stock K2.  Incorporating these parts during initial assembly makes it possible to build a rework-free “Option Ready” K2.  The installation of these parts in an already built K2 requires significant disassembly of the enclosure and some PCB rework.  It may also be necessary to replace the PA transistor thermal pads as a result of the disassembly that’s required (as described below).

Spare/Replacement K2 PCB Parts

Neither of these kits are required to build a “current model” K2 (one whose S/N is greater than 4060).  Spare thermal pads may prove handy while upgrading your existing stock K2.  The RF board caps are only needed when building or upgrading older (pre-S/N 4060) K2s to make them “Option Ready” for the K160RX option.

Spare PA Thermal Pads

Description

Not required for a new K2 build.  Also not required if you are adding the K60XV option since it already  includes a pair  of replacement thermal pads.  However, a spare pair of thermal pads is useful to have on hand if you are upgrading an already built K2 with any of the following Rework Eliminator™ Duplicate K2 PCB Upgrade parts kits:  KAT2/KPA100 (RF) Plug, K60XV Parts, or K160RX Parts.

Purpose

If you intend to upgrade an  already built  bare/stock K2 to make it “Option Ready” for all options, then you should purchase a replacement set of PA transistor thermal pads to have on hand just in case you need them.

Contents One pair (i.e. two) thermal pads.
Replacement RF Caps

Description

These two caps are included with the K160RX and with all current K2s.  However, they are not included with our K160RX Parts kit.  The reason they are included with the K160RX is to replace two original caps in older K2s.  If your K2’s S/N is below #3060 and you are ordering our K160RX Parts kit to either build or upgrade your K2 so it’s “Option Ready” for the K160RX option, then you will also require these two replacement caps.

Contents
  • RF-C68, 10 pF NPO disc.
  • RF-C153, 68 pF NPO disc.

K2 PCB Parts + Headers = Combo Packages

Even if you don’t purchase one of our combo package offerings, you still might find the following descriptions helpful in determining what you need to build your K2 so that it’s “Option Ready”.  Our Standard Combo Package is exactly what you need if you are starting out with just a bare (S/N 4060 or higher) K2, i.e. one without any options.

If the slight additional cost isn’t an issue for you, you might prefer one of our combo packages even if you are starting out with a fully loaded K2.  This is because having duplicates for all of the option supplied K2 parts eliminates the need to sort through each of the options to find them while populating your K2’s circuit boards.

If you are getting some options with your K2, then in addition to our option bypass headers kit, all you really need are our duplicate K2 PCB parts kits for just the options that you have not yet purchased.  The What Else Do I Need? page explains how to determine which of our parts kits you need, based on the options you already have.  Please feel free to contact us if you still have questions about what you need.
