Rework-Free K2 Assembly Method
The Rework Eliminators™ Companion Guides have detailed
rework-free
assembly instructions for building a K2 that’s
“Option Ready” *
for upgrading with any of Elecraft’s optional internal
expansion modules
(options) .
These guides are only available as downoadable Portable Document Format (PDF) files.
There are now two versions of the Companion Guide:
In response to
Wayne’s 30 NOV ’06 Reflector post ,
the Companion Guide was rewritten in December 2006,
dramatically simplifying the documentation annotation process required to implement our rework-free assembly
method .
Where applicable our original guide
(the one for use with the older rev. F K2 manual)
has tips for building older pre-S/N 4060 K2s.
It even has some tips for building pre-S/N 3000 K2s!

As described in our Companion Guides and also in
a note
on the
Frequently Asked Questions
page, an
“Option Ready” K2
is one into which any optional modules can be installed
without requiring
extensive disassembly of the enclosure, and
without requiring
any additional soldering on the K2’s three main circuit boards.
However,
following the installation of some modules
you still must:
Re-adjust the 80/160 meter bandpass filter (K160RX).
Tweak crystal filter and BFO settings (KSB2).
Check the VCO range on 60 meters, and if necessary
realign the VCO (K60XV).
Also, some
options
will first
require the installation of additional
connectors on the rear I/O panel (K60XV and K160RX), or the installation of a hex
standoff on the Control board (KAF2 and KDSP2).

Rework Eliminator™ K2 Internal Mic Adaptor (IMA) documentation includes …
User’s Guide – SEP ’08
(1.2 MB PDF)
– introduction, configuration, circuit description, and schematic diagram.
Assembly and Installation Instructions –
A full-color printed copy is included with the IMA kit.
It is printed half-size (2-up) and double-sided, then folded to make a small four page booklet.
It is also available for download in two different page sequences.
The version you should download depends upon whether you wish to view the file on your computer screen (1,2,3,4),
or print it to make a small four page booklet (4,1,2,3):

Option Bypass Headers User’s Guide
Our website barely existed when the User’s Guide was first published in the summer of 2005.
However, now a lot of the material in that original guide is better addressed
elsewhere
on our site.
Both versions of the guide have our color-coded un-module
diagram
along their centerfold.
Option Bypass Headers Quick Start Instruction Sheet (QSIS)
The Quick Start Instruction Sheet (QSIS) is actually four pages from the original User’s Guide.
A full-color printed copy is included with both of our option bypass headers products (kit and bare PCB).
It is printed half-size (2-up) and double-sided, then folded to make a small four page booklet.
The QSIS is available for download in either of two different page sequences,
depending upon whether it will be viewed on a computer screen (1,2,3,4),
or printed to make a small four page booklet (4,1,2,3):
Option Bypass Headers Rev. G PCB Datasheet
Rev. G Datasheet – 6 AUG ’06
(2.4 MB PDF) –
for those of you who may be curious, this datasheet has lots of technical details about the PCB,
including all design dimensions and manufacturing tolerances.
A pair of high-res photo-realistic renderings are featured on the cover.
